How the device checkup works
Each step uses the same browser capabilities as our standalone tools — the Web Audio API for the microphone, media devices for the camera, and input events for the keyboard — condensed into a quick pass/fail check with the key numbers captured along the way (peak mic level, camera resolution and frame rate, refresh rate). The system snapshot comes from what the browser is willing to reveal about the machine: the GPU model via WebGL, CPU core count, approximate memory, OS and display capabilities — browsers deliberately round or cap some of these for privacy, which is why RAM shows as "8 GB or more" on well-equipped machines. At the end, everything is laid out as a dated report designed to print cleanly onto a single page.
Because everything runs on your machine, the report doubles as a privacy-safe artifact: you can hand it to a buyer, a helpdesk or a warranty department without anything having left your computer.
Frequently asked questions
Is any of this uploaded or stored?
No. Every check runs in your browser, and the report is built on your device — it exists only on your screen until you save or print it. Nothing about your microphone, camera, keyboard or display ever reaches a server.
How do I save the report?
Click "Print / save as PDF" and choose "Save as PDF" as the printer. That gives you a file you can keep, email to IT support, or attach to a marketplace listing when selling a device.
What is the report actually good for?
Three common uses: proving a used laptop or peripheral works before selling it, showing IT support what you already verified before a call, and documenting a defect (like dead pixels or a dead key) for a warranty claim — with the date and measured details included.
Why would I skip a step?
Not every machine has every device — a desktop without a webcam, for example. Skipped steps are marked as "not tested" in the report rather than counting against the device.
