How this webcam test works
When you press start, your browser asks permission to use the camera and then renders the live feed straight into the page using the built-in media APIs. The stats below the preview show what the camera is actually delivering: the true capture resolution and a live frame rate measured frame by frame — useful for spotting a camera that claims 1080p30 but delivers far less in poor light.
Frequently asked questions
Is my camera feed recorded or uploaded?
No. The video preview is rendered directly from your camera to your screen by your browser. Nothing is transmitted, stored or shared — the feed never leaves your device.
The preview is black or frozen.
Usually another app has the camera (Zoom, Teams, OBS — close them and restart the test), or your laptop has a physical privacy shutter or camera kill-switch that is engaged. On Windows, also check Settings → Privacy → Camera.
Why is the resolution lower than my camera advertises?
The test asks for up to 1080p, but browsers and cameras negotiate the best mode they can deliver. Poor lighting, USB bandwidth limits and power-saving modes can all reduce the delivered resolution or frame rate.
The image is mirrored — is that a problem?
No. Preview windows traditionally mirror your image so it behaves like a mirror, but other people on a call see you un-mirrored. Use the mirror toggle to see either view.
